About Phyllis

During my tenure in the South Carolina State House of Representatives, it has been my honor to receive numerous awards.  These honors do not only belong to me, but the entire constituency of district 21.  Without your support, none of these would be possible.

She also serves on the Boards of Ten at the Top, the Children’s Museum of the Upstate and Artisphere. In 2011, Phyllis founded the Greenville Polo Classic charity event to benefit the Neuroscience Institute of the Greenville Hospital System. Phyllis serves as Chairman. The charity has raised over $500,000 for the institute since its inception. She was recently appointed to the Executive Committee of the national Republican Legislative Campaign Committee (RLCC).

Phyllis got her start in politics as Campaign Manager for Jim DeMint’s first successful campaign for U.S. House in 1998. She was elected to County Council in 2000, and served as Chairman from 2003-2004, one of only two females ever elected to serve as Chairman.

Phyllis has served on the boards of Greenville Area Development Corporation and the Upstate Alliance. She has also served on the Greenville County Planning Commission and the South Carolina Jobs Economic Development Authority.

Phyllis holds a Masters degree in Public Administration from Indiana University. She has three grown children, Matt, Katie and Stephen.

Phyllis was elected to the South Carolina House of Representatives in 2010. She serves on the House Labor, Commerce and Industry Committee and chairs the Healthcare and Regulatory Subcommittee of the Legislative Oversight Committee.  Phyllis is currently serving as the Finance Chairman for the House Republican Caucus.

She has served on the Board of Women in Government, a national organization for women serving in state legislatures, since 2012. In 2014, Phyllis was selected as an Emerging Leader by GOPAC, a Republican state and local political training organization. In 2016, she was awarded the prestigious Terry Haskins Award by the South Carolina Republican Party for her work in support of the Republican Party.
